| During the week of December 28-January 3, the swimming pool at Wilson Gym will be closed for maintenance. While the pool closes annually for a week of maintenance, this year's closure will bring a significant change: a transition from the current chlorinated sanitation system to a saltwater-based system. Saltwater systems generate chlorine naturally from dissolved salt, creating a more comfortable swimming experience. Many swimmers find the water less irritating to their skin, eyes, and hair because the chlorine levels stay more consistent. Saltwater systems also eliminate the strong chemical smell associated with manually added chlorine. The closure is timed to occur during winter break when many students are away. However, those remaining on campus who wish to swim during that week will have access to the pool at the YWCA on Biltmore St. To use that pool, simply show your student ID at the front desk. |
